I've gardened in upstate NY on a wonderful city lot where the previous elderly owner buried just about everything and made my soil like compost. Then moved to Louisiana where it was a different kind of gardening, and am now in West Texas learning xeriscape/low water gardening. So far I love it, but my new shrubs and perennials haven't encountered the first summer heat yet. I'll post a followup to let you know what happened and how many survived.
