I was born in 1942 to parents who owned and worked a medium size family farm in Northeast Georgia. We had a plowing mule, named Dinah, two milk cows one named Betsy and the other Booger, a bull who's name I have forgotten, as well as a number of goats and chickens.

My dad worked in a textile plant on weekdays. My grand-dad, whom everyone in the community and family called "Pa", worked the farm along with my mother, (Pa's daughter) two older sisters and two older brothers . We were very similar to the Waldens in the old t.v. series. We had a grist mill and Pa would grind our corn and other grains into meal or flour and feed for the animals, he also did the "grinding" for others in the community. Up from the grist mill we had a syrup mill, also operated by Pa. He made sorghum molasses from the sugar cane we grew.

Upon leaving highschool I entered the Navy and served on the U.S.S. Newport News CA148, a heavy cruiser. We made several cruises to the Caribbean, Mediterranean, North Atlantic and was the command ship in the Cuban Blockade of the early 60's. We did some heavy cruising, for sure.

I now live in Southeastern Georgia just a few miles from Florida. My wife Clara and I have two children and two grandchildren, 10 year old Charlotte and 14 month old Harley who keeps us quite busy.

I miss our old farm but still garden and visit my freind's farm where I keep some goats and chickens. I take the grand-kids out to the farm to feed the animals and fish in the pond. We enjoy it so much.
