My Hoya Compacta led me to this site via google.
I have had it for ten years or so. I bought it because of its unusual appearance. It has been neglected and I suspect the little bits of dried up material I have been finding on the leaves are what would have been flowers. i never knew the Hoya would blossom. Nothing on the instruction slip led me to believe this. It would hang until the leaves would begin to schivel up and then I would take it to the sink and water it. The leaves are beautiful and real "curly" when it is watered.
About six monhs ago I broke off several ends. I planted three in a small pot. I also broke off about 14" on one, pulled off several leaves and put it into a tall slim vase and put it in my kitchen window on north side of house and hidden behind a curtain. Whenever I thought of it, I would add water when it got low. I noticed the vase was getting full of roots the other day and water dirty so i took it down and was I surprised! It has a beautiful blossom about two inches across. This is growing in water and in the north light.
As mentioned above, my neglected Hoya Compacta tried to blossom but keeping it so dry prevented this.
