I'm an emeritus professor of forestry, having specialized in the biology of trees, mainly conifers, for about forty years. My research has dealt with the genetics, ecology, aging, evolution, anatomy, and morphology of conifers, mainly pines, across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Finland, the Alps, and Taiwan. I'm not really a gardener, as everything I touch dies. I enjoy writing for a popular audience, and have published five books (The Pinon Pine, A Natural and Cultural History [Univ. of Nevada Press, 1981]; Trees of the Great Basin [Univ. of Nevada Press, 1984]; Autumn Leaves - A Guide to the Fall Colors of the Northwoods [NorthWord Press, 1990]; Made For Each Other, A Symbiosis of Birds and Pines [Oxford Univ. Press, 1996]; and Conifers of California [Cachuma Press, 1999]). I'm currently working on a book about bristlecone and foxtail pines. I have a website called Ron's Treeworld which can be accessed at www.ronaldlanner.com
Check it out!
