(Much time has elapsed since my entry below. Many things have changed. Many plants didn’t make it, and many new plants are now in place. I’ll rewrite when I can find time.)

I transplanted at the end of 2002 to San Diego from Miami. Though technically in the same USDA zone, it is another world here as far as gardening goes. I have nearly a blank gardening slate here in SD (and a much smaller property, alas). Creating a new garden will be a huge learning experience as well as a lot of work.

Various outdoor plants I have acquired/installed as of July 2003 in no particular order: Bambusa ’wamin’, B. membranaceous, Dypsis lutescens (Areca Palm), Chamaedorea costaricana, C. elegans, Coccothrinax crinita, Zombia antillarium, Ravenea hildebrantii, Pimenta dioica, Litchi chinensis, Dioscorea something (turtle plant) various Amorphophalluses, various Citrus, various white-haired cacti, Musa coccinea, M. ornata, M. "Ice Cream Banana", Heliconia schiedeana, Jatropha multifida, Zingiber zerumbet, Brugmansia cultivars, Costus barbatus, Pachystachys lutea, Strobilanthes something (Persian Shield), various Bromeliads, various Tillandsias, Piper sanctum, Pavonia multiflora, Hamelia patens, various Cordyline, Fatsia japonica, Diffenbachia, Colocasia escuelente, Aglaonema, Impatiens auricoma. And I’m just getting started.

So which will live and which will die by this time next year?
