My 1/3 of an acre yard in Suburban DC drives most of my gardening interest. I like good foliage plant as much as a flowering one. I concentrate on shrubs and easy perennials, like daylilies and hosta. But every yard also has spring or summer bulbs, some trees, a lawn and other ground cover, a few roses and a few annuals for cutting or just to fill in.
I do not keep many house plants, but I do have some phal orchids, because they are so easy and such a value.
My philosphy in the garden is never leave well enough alone. I am always buying, moving, throwing out, trying to pawn off unwanted plants on the neighbors. So if you are interested in free plants, contact me. Odds are I have stuff that I am about to toss.
I am a contrarian by inclination and profession. Catechisms, whether in the guise of environmentalism or any other cult, leave me cold.
A recent addition has created both boggy areas and subterranian rubble. But has left me with more beds than ever before and space for tomatoes. (Thank you Dan Quayle for helping us dyslexics out.)
