Gardening in south Texas is a big challenge--drought, then flood, salt air, and scorching sun. One of my greatest pleasures is to create a beautiful garden space that attracts and supports the butterflies and hummingbirds we are blessed with. It is a relaxing break to stop the work on my dissertation and pick up a shovel or rake.
