I've been gardening forever, it seems.
Many years ago in Ohio, when I was 8 or 9, my Dad helped me start a small vegetable garden. I watched over that garden like a parent would her child! On Sat. mornings, I'd get up before anyone else, fix my bowl of Rice Krispies (worrying all the time that the "Snap Crackle and Pop" would wake up the family!), then I'd go out to my garden. I've had a garden most years since then, tho there was a break when life got too complicated to garden even.

So now I am a 58 yr old grandmother of 4. Whenever possible, I have the grandkids help me with my gardening. The oldest is 6,then 4 and 3. (The 2 yr old lives out of state.) This spring, we planted a sunflower house which grew well, but some plants decided to flop down and grow sideways instead! If I can instill in these little ones a love and understanding of the earth and plant life, I will feel like I have given them something very valuable.

I live in: United States

My zone is: NE Georgia
