From as young as I can remember when I was in England, my Gran and Grandad loved to garden and I remember always 'helping'. When we moved to Canada, I remember my mother struggling with her garden in the 'new' climate. I had a small garden to begin with and even now, it isn't that large considering out lot is only 80 x 100. I have hostas everywhere that I can grow them and I always seem to find a new spot. My DH asked me if he should simply dig up the rest of the grass to make things easier!
