I am a widow in a small town in Iowa. I have a big backyard and am trying to design gardens throughout. So far, I mostly fight weeds. I've learned the best method is spending the money to lay landscape plastic down, cut Xs and plant the plants, then apply mulch over that. It works. I did that on one of my gardens last fall and this spring had very few weeds to pull. That garden is shrubs and perennials and almost takes care of itself.
I have been busy inside lately because someone thought I should have two little kittens as companions. But what they are - well, they are demons! I have to watch them to keep my home intact. People tell me they will settle down when they're older. Sure hope so.
I have a question already - do you prune wiegelas? I have three that are 2 years old and the branches are real long. Do they get bushier if you cut them?
