Well, I've been involved in gardening all my life but just started my own large scale vegetable garden last year. I had a small scale veg/herb garden at my house for the past 3 years and have dabbled at growing various herbs in pots for over ten years. When I was young my father started a home grown nursery selling Cedar Primadellas, Smurags, Dhalias and Oaks. I helped out with that and in the farm garden as well as raising live stalk. I am currently two credits short of achieving my Bachelours of Science in Marine biology and I love gardening and botanical research.
I've just recently been bit by the Daylily bug and have two daylilies and will be acquiring three different unknown cultivars from my Aunt this Spring. I am also looking to purchase a cultivar that I recently discovered called Starman's Quest. It's just gorgeous.
Let's see.... I grow a plethora of heirloom tomatoes, herbs and all sorts of wierd and wonderful vegetables. This year, I am retracing my roots and am attempting to grow a variety of heirloom potatoes that range from deep reds to purples. My neighbour when I was young used to grow a purple variety and I have spent the past 4 years trying to find it and finally found some similar looking varieties. So, here's hoping!
Oh yeah, I'm also on a bit of a quest to perpetuate the Apple as a species in that I am collecting seeds and cuttings from as many apple varieties as I can and growing up trees in hopes of cross pollinating them to increase the gene pool of apples as a whole.

Also, I am collecting acorns from Garry Oaks and dispersing them around various Quercus meadows to increase the gene pool. That's basically my botanical endeavours in a nutshell. And yes, I am Canadian (note all the "u"'s in my spelling).

I live in: Canada

My zone is: SW Canada
