Here comes gardening year VI!
Well, last year was a little slow (spent much of my time in school). If I can just get things seeded next spring, there will be plenty of time next summer for growing and in fall for harvesting...
I deal with mixed coniditions in my garden--everything from full sun to full shade with three different soil conditions in combination. To add to the challenge, I got a puppy this last fall, and she loves gardening, too! The onion and garlic bulbs keep appearing on the patio and bones and "puppy crunch" keep appearing in the garden beds. :) But, there should finally be fewer squirels for me to ward off because they stay in the trees now.
This coming year I hope to maximize my use of the varying conditions by embracing them. Instead of trying to grow semi shade plants in areas that seem to produce mostly mushrooms, I'll just grow the mushrooms I can eat. In one area of a flower garden that has shallow soil, I've started growing decorative grasses and I plan to finish filling out that piece of the garden this summer. Additionally, I've added a cold frame to the Southern portion of the garden so I'm looking forward to planting tomoatoes there early next spring.
