I live in the forest with a little stream fed by springs year round. I don't have a lawn but an acre of ground covers, bulbs, shrubs, perennials, an annual or two, vegetables, herbs, fruits, and fruit trees. I also sell homemade jams and baked goods at the local farmers market, even though I am supposedly retired.
