December, 2005:

I just moved to Maine (near Acadia National Park - so pretty
!!!!) this Fall, after living in Maryland for 4 years and almost getting used to the soil there, and almost figuring out how to garden ... almost. Im still a bit in mourning for my left-behind garden, especially since the person we hired to mow the lawn and weed/clean up the garden beds for selling the house after we left seems to have hacked the gardens to sad, barren, bits. Blah. But anyway ... Im looking forward to seeing what shows up in this yard in Spring ... it was past almost everythings bloom times when I got here, except for asters, but it looks theres a little bit of a garden bed, and I think I saw some astilbe leaves, and maybe some delphinium too? that would be nice - it was too hot and humid in MD for me to have any luck with those. Im also curious to see what wildflowers there may be in and among the ferns, moss, and trees. Then Ill start adding in some gardens or at least scattered plants (Im not the most organized gardener).

Wintersowing is great! I got a lot of plants that way 2 winters/springs ago ... last year I didnt have time plus knew wed be moving. Im saving up milk jugs and hope to start WS again this winter, as soon as were a little more caught up enough on house projects (like finishing insulating!)

About my username:
Mummichogs are these remarkably tough and adaptable (and quite cute!) little fish that live in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries (among other places). Plus their latin name is fun to say: Fundulus heteroclitus. I was living in Maryland when I picked that username (thats why its a Chesapeake Bay critter).

I live in: United States

My zone is: z7 MD and z5 ME
