I have a "gentleman farmer's" 40 mostly wooded acres in the lower peninsula of MI. I have planted a new orchard of about 30 fruit trees in an old clearing of about 3 acres. I have apples, pears, cherries, plums, and grapes. This year, 2004, I plan on planting more grapes, blackberries, blueberries and some peaches.

I have the young trees surrounded by deer netting to protect them from the forest animals.

I've never grown my own trees before but I have fond childhood memories of my grandparents house that was out in the country where there were apple and cherry trees, wild blueberries and strawberries, and a vegetable garden.
