Gardening for quite a few years, with a long hiatus. Use
Ruth Stout permanent hay mulch. Mostly vegetables, this year branched out with blueberry bushes, grape vine, fig tree. (Thanks to cooperative landlord.)
Very small space, so it has to be relatively intensive.
