We raise our water plants on top of one of those buttes pictured in Charles M. Russells paintings. The butte has a slight southwest tilt to it, so the water warms earlier here than in most places around, and all water plants except lotus grow like extra-healthy weeds! It is grassland here, and very windy every day of the year, so all ponds are built downwind of rock walls, fences, etc to break the wind.
