I have a small backyard vegetable garden, and my wife tends her perennial beds, in our yard in south suburban Boston. My favorite veggies to grow are tomatoes.

Here's a little-known tip for suburban gardeners: Plant catnip! When the neighborhood cats make your garden their clubhouse, the hungry wild critters learn to hang out in somebody else's yard.
