I am learning about organic gardening. My Mother has Multiple Sclerosis and was diagnosed Oct. 2003, She went from active, persuing a Teaching Degree, working full time and taking care of all of us, to not even remembering the days of the week. She is in pain most of the time but now walks and thinks much clearer, we have switched to totally organic garden, home and there has been a world of difference. I have a co-op that has local farmers produce, eggs, and Fair Trade stuff, my Mom seriously is into NOT throwing stuff out, she says, "Recreate, Recycle, Return!"
This organic stuff is new to me, I am just out of High School, my idea of food was a drive through diet coke and burger so that I could go hang out, so talk about a 180! I have had some really 'interesting' dinners. Last week, not knowing what to do with a bounty of greens, spinach, turnip greens, beets and greens, swiss chard etc. I just washed everthing well, chop, chop, chop, plopped it into the pot, an onion, 4-5 cloves of garlic, couple shots of Braggs, and a can of tomatos. It was served over rice and was awesome!! One problem..On the second day, upon removing the leftovers from the fridge, ARGH!! the top of my stew stuff had about 20 or so tiny, bright green, catepillers, EWWW. What in the world are these? how to get them out of the veggies? I washed and soaked and seriously did not see them. Yuck. Okay. Thanks and I will be here getting every idea I can, I am pretty freaked out by all the BIG bugs in Texas and never gardened before. But for Mommie, anything. PEACE. J
