I started gardening in 1994, the year we bought our house. Our yard is 2/3rd of an acre and was formerly a cow pasture, so I had to start landscaping from scratch. Luckily, there are some mature large trees in the back of the lot. I started with a mailbox garden plan I saw in a local nursery ad and once the perennials came back the following year, I was hooked. I usually combine trees, shrubs, grasses and perennials in my beds for variety. Im a big fan of non-green foliage (yellow is my favorite), fragrant plants, and all season interest from shrubs/trees. I tend to be a plant collector and have a hard time buying/planting more than 3 of one variety. I love reading, highlighting, and studying gardening catalogs; however I almost always buy from local nurseries. CT has a great selection of nurseries that carry almost anything I could possibly want. During the growing season, I usually come home with a few plants every w/end. Im so embarassed that I shut the garage door prior to unpacking the car so the neighbors wont see my obsession out of control!
