I was born and raised in Hawaii and now live in Oregon. I am desperately trying to grow as many tropical plants as possible without either a greenhouse or atrium or sunroom. Lots of luck, Mokihana!

This last winter (04) we were frozen in place for 5 days, after 8" of snow followed by 6" of ice on top of that. Bitterly cold, even for Oregon (near Portland). I took no chances with my ginger and hibiscus, and brought them inside well before the cold weather hit.

I wish I had a solarium for all my tropical plants, so that I could grow guavas and lemons and so much more! I found this forum while searching for information on lychee trees... I grew up on fresh ones, and somehow, the canned ones just arent the same, and sure not as much fun to eat.
Fortunately, our local Asian market gets them in from Thailand once a year...

Aloha!
