I live outside of Yucca Valley, CA, in the Mojave Desert. We get four distinct seasons here: a short winter (nite temps to about 30 degrees F), a windy, cool spring, a very hot, long summer, and a blessedly mild autumn.

I oversee a 10-acre retreat and campground, which needs landscaping attention! The owners and I want drought-resilient plants, shrubs, and trees, which are native to California's high desert.

There are twenty Joshua trees out here, most of them huddled on a slope in the NW side of the property. Oleander bushes, one hardy eucalyptus tree, and one pinion pine are the surviving outsiders.
