Being new to gardening, I wanted to know more about all the vegetation growing in the yard of our new home. I took snippets of each tree, bush, shrub and flower in to the Garden specialist at the radio station where I worked and asked her to identify each of them.

She was so sweet! She stopped by my office with a list of all the items and even made recommendations on keeping or destroying them. Then she giggled and told me to be sure to destroy one in particular... it was POISON IVY!!!

I had no idea that poison ivy grew as a vine, I had always seen short plants growing in the woods. She advised me of an old rule she learned many years ago... "IF IT'S HAIRY... IT'S SCARY" (The vine has tiny little "hairs" that grow all along it and cling to whatever it grows next to.)

That is one lesson I will never forget!!!
