I have lived in Southwest Missouri since 1991 and have found gardening here a challenge but fun. I came from Ohio originally with great, black, dirt where I learned gardening from my grandpa. We never used any chemicals, composted everything, and gardened in the wee hours of the morning or sometimes by the light of the full moon. I still garden this way. We learned a lot about life from each other. I then lived in the high desert of California gardening in decomposed granite that by the time I left I had worked to a nice soil. Unfortunately the new residents did not get to enjoy since a wildfire burned through the area and took the house. Here I began gardening in rock laden soil that I'm working on.
I have been married for a long time and we have 2 daughters and a son, two grandsons and two granddaughters. No one in the family gardens like I do. I have perennial beds, water gardens, my "barnyard" garden, vine fruits, tree fruits, and veggie patch. I freeze all of our veggies and pasta sauces to make it till the next garden season.
In my spare time I bake bread, quilt, work on geneology, take care of my cattle, and work part time.
