Grew up on a small farm in Southwest Missouri. Married a military man and spent the next 19 years living in apartments, cities, etc.

Finally got to move back to the country. Eleven miles from paved road (at first) and surrounded by National forest. Sounds good until you learn how many hungry animals are just waiting for the first cultivated anything.

Grow a large garden, fruit trees, berries, and shitaki mushrooms. Raise broiler chicks for the freezer, and keep some layers.

Have a small cold greenhouse for winter salad greens, wintering plants, and raising spring garden plants.

Just now getting around to roses...always took more time than I had before.
