I have a large yard with lots of landscape planting, but just beginning to grow veggies in containers on the patio. I'm interested in growing a lot of things for my family to eat.
For the past year we have been replacing a lot of the semi-tropical landscape planting in some areas with California natives because they require little or no water and, if done right, look and smell great. Plants we have put in include salvias, ceanothus varieties, artemesia, penstemon. I'm planning on adding some toyon soon. We have several natives growing wild in our yard that I am encouraging -- deerweed and purple-eyed grass along with California live oaks that sprout from time to time.
