I had my own garden before I began school in 1938 because my parents had 1/4 acres of garden. By age 10 I was responsible for most of that garden and did much of the work in neighbors gardens.
America was in the late years of the Depression and many of my one-room school friends had inadequate food and heat. I decided to go to Purdue University in hopes of helping local folks have better food. My main teen interests were chemistry and genetics. I am still living my teen hobbies with the advantages of a B.S. in Agriculture and a Ph.D in Molecular Genetics. I have served at Purdue University, University of Illinois, Murray State (KY)and Cal Tech.
My website is mainly aimed at helping young people and adults find the information they want for careers. health and hobbies. My main focus is developing garden methods for nutrition and exercise to reduce risk of cancer, heart problems, obesity, and chronic diseases. I like to say these are teenager diseases which kill old people.
I choose MicroPropagator as my User Name because I use micropropagation in my home lab to multiply strawberries, brambles, sweetpotato that are free of viruses, bacteria, and fungi for my gardens. My gardens consiste of beds: raised, level, or sunken (for spring heating and summer drought).
