I'm in Iowa City. It all started out innocently enough...A sister-in-law gave me some iris bulbs and another sis-in-law gave me a hosta & 2 daylilies when we moved into our new place. From there, it snowballed year by year until I've become an obsessive-compulsive,stark-raving lunatic who, every spring, despite vowing every fall & winter that next year "I will just MAINTAIN next year, I will NOT put in any more plants!" still goes into a trance every spring and starts maniacally planting anywhere there is the tiniest bit of bare ground. I have never ever turned down a free cutting or division from a friend, and those plant tents put up at many stores around town lure me in like a siren. Also, despite having lived in Iowa most of my life, and knowing full well when it is too early in the spring to begin working in the garden, every year I go on the 'net searching for a forum somewhere...anywhere, that will tell me that "yes indeed, you may go out in late Febuary & early March & start planting!" Alas, I have yet to find a site to tell me that's ok. So I wait......and dream......
