Maude, my user name, is the name of a grey tree frog that dropped out of our huge staghorn fern into the bathtub one February.

I'm an educator - elementary and college level. Have also been a bus driver and a principal.

As a gardener, I'm hopeless -- can't keep my fingers out of the soil. I'm also interested in conservation, composting, vermiculture, history, and technology.

The garden is slowly taking over the lawn. I'm constantly revising, relocating, and replanting. I don't pamper my plants - if they can't make it without help, I don't want 'em.
