I bought a 1/2 acre site in the country 14 years ago as a single mother of 2. The place had a house and wheel tracks in the lawn(?) as a driveway. That's it, nothing bearing leaves! Since then, I have planted over 100 trees and shrubs; many, many perennials; put in a small pond; have a small greenhouse for starting plants in the spring and have done some extensive landscaping. I am obsessed, I do admit. I always have to be in the middle of another project for my yard. In this part of the country we only have about 5 months of green. The rest of the year I keep the seed catalog companies in business!
