I live on the top of the Great Divide on the indland side. My garden is 2+acres. I have very tall gum trees which give mottled shade during the day. The gums eat up the moisture, and I am resorting to growing hardy bulbs in garden beds beneath the trees, along with other natives.
This area is a tick area, and I now react badly to each bite. We have plenty of wild life, from the wallaby, bandicoots, possums,to red belly black snakes. My fruit trees and tomatoes get eaten by the king parrots and lorikeets, and the currawongs love my fig tree. I do not have a cat or dog, but have a white cockatoo, white corella, and a pink galah as pets. The wildlife get more to eat out of my garden than we do.
Such is life, in my home and garden. Would I want to change things. - I don't think so.
My other hobby is patchwork & quilting. I am just a beginner with less than 2 years experience and the quilts I have made, have been given away (I am learning by my mistakes/quilts which I pass on to family members for pressies). I have 37 nephews and nieces at the last count. By the time each has one, I should be good.
And I have been tending the family tree for the past 20 years, and it is growing well, and a few branches have dropped off along the way. This is as bad as my gardening -it never get finished.
