Welcome to maine_kate's Member Page
avid New England gardener who always wants to learn more, especially from other gardeners. I grow herbs (thyme, oregano, basil, lavender) perennials (echinacea, Russian sage, coreopsis) shrubs (holly, rhodo, peony) and strawberries.
New project is putting in a new bed, about 32 feet long on both sides of a brick walk.
Challenges are: moles in the lawn/garden, deer, Japanese beetles and red lily beetle. I don’t plant tulips anymore-that seems to have solved my deer problem, except after lean winters when they go after the hosta! Milky spore application helped reduce grubs in the lawn which moles feed on, thereby reducing the mole population AND Japanese beetle population.
Belong to a local CSA (community-supported agriculture) - Wolf Pine Farm in Alfred- where I get all my organic vegetables for 20 weeks during summer/fall. Best investment I've made in years!
