I graduated in 2002 from the University of the Philippines Los Banos finishing a bachelor's degree in Agriculture (major in Horticulture). I obtained my agriculturist license after passing the July 2003 Agriculture Board Exams. I'm a horticulturist very interested in plants. I have worked in a seed company as a research assistant and handled some projects in tropical vegetable breeding (squash, Cucurbita moschata). I also worked for 2 months as a landscape horticulturist/ leadman (for landscape maintenance) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. I was also involved in a research project on Philippine orchid species and worked as a management associate in consulting firm.
I collect Philippine mussaenda hybrids and other tropical plants. I'm also into photography (subject, of course are plants) and watercolor/ oil painting.

I am currently taking my masters at the University of Hawaii Manoa.

About my username

Maghahalaman is a Filipino term for gardener. It came from the root word halaman, which means plant. Mag + ha (repeated from halaman) may actually mean two things: a gardener (as a noun) - Maghahalaman ako (I am a gardener) or to tend a garden or plant (as a verb) Maghahalaman ako (I will tend the garden). Stress in a syllable will vary the meaning. I once thought of hardinero (another Filipino term) as a username but it sounds more Spanish than Filipino.
