I grew up deep in the city -- Newark N.J. I knew roses because they had thorns and oaks becaue they had acorns, (I had read somewhere 'Great oaks from little acorns grow.')

Everything else was a tree, a pine tree, a flower or a weed.

When I was first married (many years ago) we had window boxes on our house. An older friend advised buying petunias and geraniums. I said,"Which are petunias and which are geraniums?"

Now I have a large garden, mostly part shade, which is a challenge, because something that grows in one spot won't grow six inches to the left or right.

I love gardening -- AND knowing what everything is called.
