Not an experienced gardener, but an avid amateur. Starting a shade bed, prefer native plants, but willing to try anything that will grow here in the frigid north (zone 4). Recently discovered hostas, and Im hooked. Last year it was roses, next year...who knows?! I tend my compost pile as often as I tend my gardens, to try to amend my rocky, clay soil.
