I am a reference librarian, now retired on disability. Gardening has kept me sane, dealing with no less than 4 medical conditions including one that makes me very susceptible to having strokes. After 16 years in New Orleans, in June 2006 I left that desolated city and returned to my home town in central Alabama and joined the local Master Gardener program. I now specialize in butterfly gardening but still grow succulents and bromeliads. I'm in charge of labeling for the MG annual sale, teach the session on houseplants for the incoming MG classes, and am in charge of the local MG Helpline. Lately I've been getting interested in antique roses and others that can survive the heat and humidity here. I'd grow tomatoes but the %$#*@ squirrels steal them!
