Hi, I live in NW Arkansas on the edge of the Ozark National Forest. This is a decidious hardwood forest, so I have lots and lots of leaves for composting. Growing sun loving plants here is a challenge because of the heavy tree canopy. Huge Oaks, Hickorys and Dogwoods abound. You literally have to cut down trees to grow flowers and grass. I have found by trial and error that Daylilies, Asiatic lilies, and Hostas do very well in my yard. Japanese Maples seem to do well also. Anything else that grows is a bonus!;>)
I also have to fight the bugs, armadillos, racoons, deer, and my dog and cats for plant life!

Composting has become a way of life for me as the soil is hard red clay under the thin leaf litter. I always have one or two 'piles' going and am always on the lookout for greens to go with all those leaves.

I live in: United States

My zone is: z6b NW-AR
