I was born in England, emigrated to Toronto in 1973.
My first garden was a vegetable allotment near Lake Ontario that was consisted of fill so the soil was clay only 4 inches deep! so I grew varieties suitable for permafrost eg short stubby carrots.
I moved into a house with front, back and side gardens three years ago, alas, the earth had not been tended for a long time and all three gardens contained many years worth of Norway Maple seedlings covered with leaves.
During the last three years I have gradually ammended the soil , created raised beds, grown 50% of my perennials from seed in the basement and replaced the front lawn with ground cover.
Gardening is my obsession.
