I am building a Japanese style garden in MA with a 10 year plan for completion. My wife thinks it will be done next year. Knowing the importance of rock placement, I bought an excavator big enough to lift the VW sized rocks that fit the site. The bigger ones I just work around.

2004 Update

Three years later, my wife is getting suspicious that I do not plan to finish. She is right. I have completed a 20,000 gal pond system with a half dozen waterfalls and some very fat koi. The pile of rock that came out of the excavation is a major eyesore to some and a gold mine to others. Plants are coming in slowly. I have set loose some hardy bamboo and cultivated acres of moss, but deer and cold weather killed most of the rest last winter. It is an opportunity to improve.
