I live in NorthEastern Ohio in the US and am a member of the Midwest Cacti and Succulent Society here in my state. I grow succulents in mini makeshift greenhouses during the summer and indoors during the colder months. My collection is small because I don't have much space and I don't have sufficient financial resources. Much of my collection is different species of aloe, but I take interest in a range of succulents and cacti.
I don't have the heart to turn down the adoption of one of these plants, especially if they are ill, not being taken care of, and therefore not wanted anymore. What the plants give back in return for being loved and cared for is worth something that money cannot buy. I take in sick plants from different places, mostly succulents, that people don’t know how to take care of and don’t want to deal with anymore, and revive them. I've come to have plants, grown and now many babies, that I don't have much room for, especially now that I've brought them back inside as the cool weather is coming here in Ohio.
I have old aloe vera plants that have produced many little ones as well as mother of thousands plants bryophyllum (kalanchoe) daigremontianum and bryophyllum (kalanchoe) crenatodaigremontianum which are taking over with all of their younglings. I really would like to find them good homes as is the final step in my unofficial recovery program.
I have a huge love and passion for succulent plants, they've become a big part of my life. The energy that they give off has become a comfort that I now rely on everyday of my life. I've struggled for a while and forever will with psychological illness and these creatures have come to sooth me in a very powerful way. Living with them and taking care of them is very calming to the mind, body, and spirit, becoming very therapeutic and rewarding.
