In 2008, entering ninth spring on lot which lost its topsoil thirty years ago (dratted developer must have sold it all) and has been hard-pan clay ever since. It holds water like an aquarium if I dig down; it is impenetrable if I build up; it s awful! Always happy to get messages of consolation and advice. And there s so much shade; I need alternatives to hostas and ferns.
Meanwhile, we ve built a deep-to-dappled shade terrace garden with castlerock. We ve built four raised beds with untreated lumber for growing tomatoes and other food plants. In 2006, we built a raised bed garden with pressure-treated landscape logs for ornamental plants since this lumber leaches arsenic into the soil, which food plants will absorb.
I don t have anything to trade yet, but if you have questions about the hosta & daylilies I ve listed on my trade list, just send me an email.
