My husband and I always appreciated a lovely garden and great landscaping, but only kept it to a minimum at home. We thought our garden was already overloaded with a few annuals, daylilies, peonies, a yucca and some hostas! A few years ago, my mother-in-law brought over a trunk load of perennials for us. I didn't want them and resented her for it. I knew absolutely nothing about perennials whatsoever! However, I forced myself to plant them and was pleasantly surprised how beautiful they were and fairly low-maintenance. Slowly we started buying more and more, and spent a lot of time looking at various books, and now our yard is filled with a large variety of perennials. It's practically a full-time hobby!

I love everything - flowers, trees, shrubs, etc. but I am particularly hooked on hostas and ornamental grasses. We have about 25 varieties of hostas and 22 varieties of grasses in our yard, so far. It's an addiction and it's hard to stop buying things, even though we've run out of room!
