At the ripe old age of 41, I'm finally getting into this gardening thing. Grew up around roses, pyracantha, grass, grass, grass, basically nothing that would inspire me to pull weeds at 7am on a Saturday!
About 5 years ago, on a whim I bought a tiny (read cheap) palm from Home Depot. Even after total neglect it has grown to over 10 ft already! So... last summer (2002) talked the husband into putting in Palms (notice the capital P). We now have a Pindo, 4 Mexican Fans, 1 Chinese Windmill and the original 10'er, species unknown. And this summer we've branched out into bananas, ee and hardy hibiscus.
I've even coverted the sprinkler system to drip so the watering chores aren't a bother! Since the backyard is looking passable, it's time to turn to the front - now there's the REAL challenge. How do you turn a Plano TX suburban front yard into a tropical paradise without the neighbors thinking I've lost my gourd?!
