i grew up in an apt. in the city but always had a little garden in the yard of my grandparents house nearby. for about 5 years now i lived in Long Island, away from the city, with a wonderfully sized yard, therefore there is a long garden along half of our back fence. my mother has always loved flowers and plants, therefore our house has been dubbed "botanical gardens" by my friends. i guess you can say that i got my green thumb from her and her parents because i grow vegetables in my own yard every year now.....she does all the plants, and i do all the vegetables, so needless to say, the air is very clean around us, lol. i've grown acorn squash and okra, successfully, although i do not eat them (i just like to see things grow). i've also successfully grown varieties of carrots, string beans, collard greens (lots of 'em), lima beans, turnips, potatoes, zucchini [yellow & green] squash, and more, and am now waiting for the heads of broccoli and head growth with cabbages. In addition, i have seedlings of cucumber and cantoloupe plants just for fun.................hope only for the best in the future, for me and for you.......
