Love my garden, and am driven to distraction by it at times. It's a learning curve for life, isn't it? Sandy alkaline soils, iron-laden bore water, there have been lots of failures, but the successes are so rewarding, and there are always those. Mildewed grapes are compensated for by the first real crop of quinces, this year's bud-rotted Pierre de Ronsard (last year it was glorious) by a screen covered in white and pink mandevillas flowering their little socks off all summer and a night-scented jessamine that perfumes the whole house.
