I've always loved my mom's gardens, but I'm new to starting my own. We just built a house about 30 minutes inland and all the bare ground seems overwhelming. I compete with harsh winters and burning sun all without the warming coastal currents. I love the old-fashioned gardens, the heirloom plants, and the coastal "look" with roses, lilacs, peonies, cotoneaster and juniper.
