I've been growing Aroids for over 30 years and am a published hybridizer of Alocasias. I have a Master's degree of Agriculture in Plant Physiology and have developed several Alocasias that are currently in commercial production (although, alas, yielding no financial remuneration to me!). I am the Director of Research, and chief hybridizer, at Aroidia Research, a privately owned and funded effort to produce hardier, larger, and more interesting aroids for the garden and landscape.
