I live in Redondo Beach, California and love to grow tropical plants, especially palms.
I lived in Central Florida for 10 years.
After traveling all over, I really feel that the climate of coastal southern California (Dry-summer subtripical, "Mediterranean") is the best overall climate in the world, most variety, flowers, and comfort. In my opinion the best gardens I've seen are Fairchild Gardens in Coral Gables, FL, Bushart near Victoria, BC, the Huntington Library in Pasadena, CA, the San Diego Zoo, L.A. County Arboretum, Sunken Gardens in St Pete, FL, Living Desert in Tucson, AZ, Moorten in Palm Springs, and the Natural Palm canyons of the SoCal sub-trop deserts.
