I am 55 YO woman, and have been married for 32 years, have a daughter living in Detroit, who also loves our garden. I am a real amateur, but taking on the task of planning an extention of a flower garden in my yard. We are in zone 5, near Flint MI, and happened upon this amazing website. My hubby Bob is the main caretaker, but I give a lot of the orders lol.

Our home is on four acres of land, used to be a field, but shrubs and small trees are taking over beyond our mowing area. Lots of wild critters share our property, but have left my garden alone so far, escept for the finch, bees, and butterflies.

Mom and grandma were born in 1913 and 1890 respectively, so I have always had some familiarity of the old garden favorites. Althought we built our house in '86, Bob and I have extended our garden for the last 3 years, trying out perennials, some of which are native Michigan wildflowers.

Our goal is to achieve a collage garden feel, with low maintenance care. We both have a lot to learn, but the experience is rewarding.

We also have an aging dog and cat, who stay on the walk stones. It is adorable to see our kitty avoid stepping on even the stray weeds sprouting up.
