Hi! I'm mid-40s, female, and happily single. In a previous life I was a marketing executive and an academic. Now I have the pleasure of staying home full time on our 1/4 acre property in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. I live with my elderly (but thoroughly modern mother) - if she's asking the question she'll sign off 'Kooka's Mum'. Mum's an old hand at gardening, but I'm fairly new to it - but learning fast! The division of labour at the moment is I dig and she plants!

We find gardening books frustrating because they don't give you enough practical information. I think real life people will give better answers to our many vexing questions!

When we moved here 18 months ago we had a 1/4 acre paddock - only one small garden bed and hardly any grass. Now we have: a country-style garden in the front yard - roses, lavender, lisianthus, agapanthus, gardenias, hydrangeas, annuals, etc; a huge dahlia garden; a rainforest walk; an 'Asian' meditation corner; and two vegetable beds - and that's just the start. We're working on a 'secret garden' at the moment and looking forward to extending the vegetable gardens and planting a small orchard.

We are fortunate to have inherited a mature avocado tree, macadamia nut tree and a lychee tree.

Our property overlooks a small lake and we're right on the edge of the rainforest, so it's rather an idyllic setting.

We're rather new to forums but have been enjoying posting on some cooking forums and look forward to learning a lot more about gardening from this site!
